Jon Brianas
Jon is a native of Annapolis, MD born there in 1978. Of all the various things he was exposed to throughout his upbringing he was always particularly drawn to competing in sports. While he participated in both Lacrosse and Football it soon became apparent that Lacrosse was his true calling.
Beginning organized lacrosse in 7th grade he excelled immediately. At Annapolis High School Jon made the Varsity squad his freshman year and began contributing to the offense right away... by the time he was a senior he was voted Team Captain, led the team in points, and began to gain interest from many reputable college programs including the United States Naval Academy. His senior year he would earn All-County, All-State, and All-America honors.
Jon is one of five brothers and the third of three brothers to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, class years 1997, 1999, and he was 2000. By his junior year he had moved himself into a starting midfield line along with Adam, scoring two goals in an overtime win against Georgetown that put the team into the playoffs that year (Adam scored the winning goal). The following Monday Jon was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Although it was determined to be very treatable, it came at a devastating time in his lacrosse career. After deciding to have a smaller surgery to treat the cancer and forgo a larger surgery for later in the Spring, Jon returned to action to finish the 1999 season after a couple weeks off.
His Senior year Jon was voted Team Captain of the Lacrosse team, an honor he holds very close to his heart. Jon’s cancer returned in the Winter of his Senior year and chemotherapy treatments followed into the beginning of the 2000 season...but that didn’t keep him from traveling with the team and performing his Team Captain responsibilities. He returned to action that season and led his team to a 9-4 season, scoring 7 goals and 4 assists, and was selected by the varsity coaches for the "Coaches Calvert Award" for leadership, loyalty, and consistent effort. Jon has been clear from cancer since February of 2000.
Since college Jon’s sports career has transitioned from lacrosse and competitive sports into personal fitness. He and his wife Jenny live very active lifestyles and practice "active family living" on a daily basis. He has competed in numerous fitness events including the Marine Corps Marathon, the Annapolis 10-Mile Run, the Annapolis Triathlon, the Eagleman Triathlon and the Columbia Triathlon.
Jon graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in May of 2000 with an undergraduate degree in Economics. He also earned an MBA from Loyola College in Baltimore, graduating from the Sellinger School of Business in May of 2002. After 6½ years as a Supply Officer in the Navy Jon transitioned to civilian life and is working for the Naval Academy as the Director of a multi-sport athletic complex. Jon married Jenny in June of 2000. They live in Annapolis with their four wonderful, very active kids, Carter, Madison, Isabella, and Leo.
